The Monstera deliciosa plant is also known as the Swiss Cheese Monstera because as it ages it develops unique holes and splits (called fenestration) in its large heart-shaped leaves. These notches occur as a healthy preventative measure against the heavy rain and wind so common to its natural habitat.
Native to the Mexican rainforest, the Monstera Deliciosa quickly grows lush and glossy. Under ideal conditions, it can bloom white flowers and sprout edible fruit.
Its beautiful large leaves have made it popular with interior designers and it is often featured on lists by global publications like Architectural Digest, Vogue, and GQ.
The Monstera deliciosa is ometimes confused with Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum, known as the Split-leaf Philodendron.
